Varsity Cinema is proud to partner with Monsoon Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity for a special screening and discussion that highlights the resilience of immigrant communities and the urgency of telling their stories. As public health, immigration, and racial justice remain deeply intertwined, this event creates space for reflection and community connection.

Following the film, representatives from Monsoon will lead a conversation about the shared experiences of Asian and Pacific Islander communities in Iowa and across the U.S., the fight for equity in healthcare and beyond, and how solidarity can challenge systems that perpetuate harm. Serving all 99 counties in Iowa, Monsoon provides free and confidential services for survivors of gender-based violence, with a multilingual staff and culturally responsive programs that foster healthy, thriving communities.

Film Details:
Nurse Unseen explores the little-known history and humanity of the Filipino nurses who have long played an essential role in U.S. healthcare. The film shines a light on their sacrifices during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they risked their lives on the frontlines while facing a resurgence of anti-Asian hate. Through personal stories and historical context, Nurse Unseen reveals the strength and dignity of these workers, whose contributions have too often been overlooked.
