We are thrilled to announce the very first summer camps from Des Moines Film at the historic Varsity Cinema!

Around the World in Movies
Travel around the world through movies! Earn a new stamp for your passport each day as we watch a movie from a different country then explore that country’s culture through fun activities.

All films will be PG or G rated or considered equivalent. For the 2nd-3rd grade camps, all films will be spoken or dubbed in English. For the 4th-5th grade camps, most films will be in English but some may require reading subtitles. The movie selection for each grade level will be the same for both weeks of the camp.

Campers will receive a light snack each day, including movie theater popcorn on Friday!

Meet the Teachers
Zach Kellen has a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and has taught 1st-3rd grade for nine years. He is currently in his eighth year teaching middle school at Cowles Montessori.

Darci Kellen has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Environment and has been an instructional coach at Central Academy for ten years as well as an adjunct English instructor for DMACC.

Film selection will be done in collaboration with Des Moines Film Executive Director and Varsity Programmer Ben Godar. Ben has an MFA in screenwriting. In addition to teaching film studies and screenwriting at the college level, he has experience teaching reading and animation to elementary students.
