Summer Camp

We’re excited to offer another round of summer camps at the Varsity!

Around the World in Movies

For Grades 3-6*
Travel around the world through movies! Earn a new stamp for your passport each day as we watch a movie from a different country then explore that country’s culture through fun activities.

All films will be PG or G rated or considered equivalent. Most films will be spoken or dubbed in English, but some may require reading subtitles.

Campers will receive a free t-shirt, plus a light snack each day, including movie theater popcorn on Friday!

Meet the Team
Darci Kellen has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Environment and has been an instructional coach at Central Academy for eleven years as well as an adjunct English instructor for DMACC.

Film selection will be done in collaboration with Des Moines Film Executive Director and Varsity Programmer Ben Godar. Ben has an MFA in screenwriting. In addition to teaching film studies and screenwriting at the college level, he has experience teaching reading and animation to elementary students.
