En este drama biográfico, Selena Quintanilla nace en el núcleo de una familia de músicos Mexicoamericana de Texas. Su padre, Abraham, se da cuenta de que su hija tiene talento y empieza a cantar con ella en pequeños locales. Selena alcanza el éxito y se enamora de su guitarrista, Chris Pérez, que provoca la ira de su padre. En busca del estrellato, Selena empieza a grabar un álbum en inglés que, trágicamente, nunca llego a completar.

In this biographical drama, Selena Quintanilla is born into a musical Mexican-American family in Texas. Her father, Abraham, realizes that his young daughter is talented and begins performing with her at small venues. She finds success and falls for her guitarist, Chris Perez, who draws the ire of her father. Seeking mainstream stardom, Selena begins recording an English-language album which, tragically, she would never complete.
